Day 1 - Kigali to Akagera National Park

The journey from Kigali to Akagera National Park in eastern Rwanda, bordering Tanzania, takes around four to five hours on tarmacked roads. The 100,000-hectare park, managed by African Parks in partnership with the RDB since 2010, features scenic savannah and has undergone significant transformation in the last eight years. Poaching has been eliminated, and wildlife is now thriving. In 2015, African Parks reintroduced lions and black rhinoceros, and in 2017, hippos and various bird species were reintroduced. The night is spent at a hotel in the park.

Day 2 - Akagera National Park

Experience a full day safari game drive in Akagera National Park, guided by an expert, showcasing the park’s stunning landscape. Witness a variety of wildlife, including buffalo, lion, leopard, elephant, giraffe, spotted hyena, and zebra. The park also houses nearly 500 bird species, including the shoebill and red-faced barbet, and offers expertly-guided walks and boating trips. Stay the night at the same hotel.

Day 3 - Akagera National Park to Kigali

Drive from Akagera National Park back to Kigali. The drive is around three hours. Spend the day in Kigali visiting the Genocide Memorial Museum, the Inema arts centre and local markets. Stay the night at a hotel in Kigali.

 

Day 4 - Kigali to Volcanoes National Park

Travel to Volcanoes National Park: the breathtaking three-hour trip north will take you through the verdant, lush countryside. With a breathtaking row of volcanoes stretching far into the distance, Volcanoes National Park has an amazing panorama. To discover more about the history of Volcanoes National Park, stop into the Gorilla Guardian’s Center. Spend the evening unwinding at the hotel of your choosing.

Day 5 - Volcanoes National Park

Volcanoes National Park gorilla trek: Get up early and drive the short distance to the park headquarters, where porters, tea, and coffee will be provided along with a briefing before you begin your trip into the bush. It is possible to organize local ports and receive assistance from the guide to finish the gorilla tracking adventure.

Depending on which family group is chosen, tracking may take anywhere from ninety minutes to the entire morning. You will spend an hour with the gorillas, occasionally shifting to be in the same area as them or even trailing them. The guide will make sure you are in the ideal locations to capture the most exquisite moments and fully enjoy the amazing experience.
